Web designers are responsible for creating attractive and fully functional websites, but there is more to it than just creating a pretty design. A designer has to take into account the customers’ marketplace, their brand, the goal of the site and much much more. In short, a web designer takes the needs of its customer and translates this into a website that is fully supportive of the customer’s goals.

A well-designed website can make all the difference to the way a business is viewed by its visitors and potential customers, and will help them to take the desired action. This involves creating a great user experience, part of which means optimising the design for mobile devices and their smaller screens and ensuring that it is easy to navigate and to use.

All websites now need to use responsive design, for the simple reason that so many people view web pages using mobile devices. Responsive websites are designed so that they automatically scale their content and elements to match the screen size on which they are being viewed. If this is not done, users have to do a lot of extra work to read your content, by for instance scrolling the viewing window from left to right as well as the normal up and down. Also, Google is known to penalise non-responsive websites, giving them a poorer rank in their results.

Another name for Graphic Design is Communication Design. Designers create images to put across the message needed by their clients. Web designers, on the other hand, create & modify the design of websites, which includes the graphic design part. Graphic designing is often considered to be the more artistic field and is heavily used in the production of printed materials.

Graphic design as a profession is a juggling act. You’re working to create something that incorporates your client’s specifications as well your own design sensibilities. If you’re lucky, the two overlap, but that’s often not the case. Sought-after qualities in this field include communication, curiosity, passion, ability to take criticism, problem-solving, patience, and reliability.

An important quality in a graphic designer is the ability to communicate, both verbally (to clients and co-workers) and visually. A great graphic designer should be able to create work that conveys a brand’s vision and solves problems. It also doesn't hurt if you keep up with trends in graphic design.

Have you worked with a graphic designer in the past? If yes, what was the experience like? If not, why not?

Please share your preferred method of communication.

Please share if you have any other graphic design needs outside of this project (logo redesign, color and font rebranding, etc.)

If the client doesn’t mention their competition, there is no harm in asking about it. Looking at the competitive companies’ designs will give you an edge and help you understand the client’s business better. This way you will know what your client is up against and will be able to create a design that will stand apart from any competition.

It is always helpful to get a sense of creative direction from the client themselves. Ask them about the features that they would like to see or how they want their design to be perceived. Some clients are keen on incorporating certain elements or attributes that symbolize their company, brand or product. Therefore, this particular information is extremely valuable.

Expectations of your client include his expectations from you as a designer and your work. You can ask what he is expecting from this project and how he wants to see the results. You need to ask what kind of professional terms he follows and if there are any special instructions and rules.

When you are focusing on the expectation part, you must clear the expectations and terms from both the client and designer’s side. By this, you can understand what your client wants from you and this project. You can get some hints of ideas for your design concept as well. So try to get clarity as much as you can for your client’s expectations, goals, and preferences from your first discussion.

The next question is for a better understanding related to your client’s brand and his other business activities. You can ask him to describe what his brand is all about in few single words. It would be best to ask about his business activities, product range, partner companies, etc.

This question may give you all the small and significant detail about your client and his business. And data collection from this question might play some important role in your design. So follow this kind of flow to get deeper analysis and try to keep questions short and precise where you can get straightforward information and clear words.
